General meets are held in March and
November and are open to all guests and members. They are held at
the San Juan Capistrano Community Center on Del Avion from 7:00
to 9:00 pm. Topics are generally of historic interest relating to
our area. A report on the Society's yearly activities is given as
well. In March we hold our annual election of Board members.. No
charge
Find the Historical Society booth at
the Swallows' Day Parade Mercado for some wonderful tri-tip barbecue
sandwiches and beverages. It is located on the El Camino Real parking
lot near the Ortega Highway entrence from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Every June the Society hosts a membership
mixer for its members and guests. No charge. The mixer is held on
the O'Neill Museum patio and grounds. Generous amounts of food and
beverages are served. A Chinese raffle is also presented with exceptional
prizes.
The annual Heritage barbecue is held
at Amantes Campground on Rancho Mission Viejo. There will be the
best tri-tip dinner you've ever tasted with sides of beans, salad,
desert, and soft drinks all for a nominal fee. Reservations are
necessary to help ensure food for all.
Spend the day under the oaks with friends
and guests remininiscing about long-gone days of yore. Browse through
historical photographs of people and locations of San Juan Capistrano.
Copies of the photographs are available for a nominal fee through
the Historical Society. Books detailing the art, history, and legends
of San Juan Capistrnao are also available for sale. Enjoy the fun
of the Historical Society's wonderful Chinese Raffle which is loaded
with exciting gifts.
Get in the spirit of Halloween by joining
the Historical Society Walking Tour Guides on a spooky walking tour
of Los Rios Street, the oldest residential neighborhood in California.
Be prepared for creepy tales of big black dogs, strange monks who
have lost their heads, ghostly tales about a lady in white and other
goings on.
Meet your Ghost Tour Guide at the O'Neill
Museum on Los Rios Street. Ghost Walk Tours are conducted at these
times, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 pm. The cost is $4.00 for adults and
$3.00 for children under 12. Reservations are required.
A Christmas tour of the historic ranch
house of Rancho Santa Margarita y Las flores on Camp Pendleton.
Besides the trip to the old ranch house, there will be a picnic
lunch on the base and a tour of another place of historic interest.
We will meet at the O'Neill Museum. There is a fee for this tour
and reservations afe necessary.
